Irritability
This is how Carter's manic phases express themselves. It hardly seems fair. He has all the pain of a devastating mental illness, no memory of a time before he became sick (because he was symptomatic so early), and none of the parts of that illness that so many people with bipolar experience as fun!

I just found your blog and really like it. My son experiences irritability too when manic and even hypomanic. Now we do get the fun parts too before it goes too far but the irritability is really rough.
